Created by musician and dad Greg Stare, Rocking Chair Music is a project dedicated to bringing children and families together through the joy of music. As the creative home for Greg’s original children’s songs, lively family concerts, and interactive Sing and Drum-Along sessions, Rocking Chair Music provides a vibrant space where rhythm becomes a unifying force, individuality is celebrated, and meaningful connections flourish.
Greg's Story
Greg Stare is a seasoned percussionist, drummer, and multi-instrumentalist with over three decades of professional experience. Raised in a musically vibrant household, Greg’s early years were filled with the sounds of Motown, Folk, Classic Rock and Blues, often accompanied by family singalongs that sparked his lifelong passion for music.
He pursued formal musical training at institutions like the University of Southern California and the Harbor Conservatory in East Harlem. He further honed his craft through immersive studies with master musicians in Cuba and the Dominican Republic, where he deepened his understanding of Afro-Caribbean rhythms. These experiences shaped his dynamic style and broadened his ability to navigate diverse musical genres.
Throughout his career, Greg has contributed to a wide array of projects, including recording for television and film, international touring, and performing across genres ranging from jazz, rock, and world music. His adaptability and rhythmic expertise have made him a sought-after collaborator in both live performances and studio recordings.
Fatherhood brought a transformative chapter to Greg’s musical journey. Inspired by the joy of connecting with his children through music, he expanded his repertoire to include guitar and harmonica. This evolution led to the creation of Rocking Chair Music, an interactive program designed for babies, toddlers, and their caregivers. Through this initiative, Greg fosters early childhood development by introducing young audiences to the magic of rhythm and melody in an engaging, hands-on environment.
In 2024, Greg released his debut children’s album, Rocking Chair Music with Greg Stare. The album showcases his multi-instrumental talents and heartfelt approach to music-making. Featuring original songs alongside familiar tunes, it captures the playful spirit of his live sessions while emphasizing rhythm as a unifying force.
Whether leading sessions with babies and toddlers or performing onstage with fellow musicians, Greg remains dedicated to sharing the transformative power of music with audiences of all ages.
